        Pico projector runs Windows CE

Epoq Multimedia has announced a miniature projector that runs Windows CE 5.0 and includes built-in Microsoft Office viewers. The EPP-CEP1 projects VGA-resolution images measuring up to 50 inches diagonally, has an integral trackpad, and can run on batteries for up to four hours, the company says.

Unlike some pico projectors, Epoq's new EPP-CEP1 appears not to have a video input for connection to external sources. Instead, the device is designed to display images stored in its internal memory or on an SD expansion card.

The EPP-CEP1 also has no screen, relying entirely on its projection capabilities. According to Epoq, the projector uses white LEDs, offers 10 Lumens, and has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The device works over distances of up to 5.9 feet, at which point images measure 50 inches diagonally, the company adds.

As shown above, the interestingly styled EPP-CP1 integrates a touchpad and mouse buttons on its top surface. The device also has an internal speaker, and can accept an external keyboard and mouse via a USB host port, says Epoq.

According to Epoq, the EPP-CP1 runs Windows CE 5.0, and includes software such as Windows Media Player, Word Pad, plus Microsoft Office viewers that can display PowerPoint, Word, and Excel documents. The projector can also play video in WMV, AVI, and MPEG formats, photos in BMP and JPEG formats, and MP3, WMA, or WAV audio files, the company says.

The EPP-CP1 does not include wireless connectivity or any sort of web browsing capability, something we'd love to see in future such devices. Instead, data enters the unit only via its SD slot, and possibly via a USB client port, though Epoq provided no word of the latter.

According to the company, the EPP-CP1 uses a ARM9-based Samsung S3C2442 processor clocked at 400MHz, with 64MB of RAM and 64MB of flash storage. A 1500mAh battery powers the device for up to four hours, adds Epoq.
