        Fanless industrial panel PCs run Windows Embedded

        Protech Systems of Taiwan has introduced a new series of fanless panel PCs with support for both Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded. The PPC-736XF series offers three models with display sizes ranging from 8.4 inches to 15 inches, according to the company.

        The PPC-736XF devices are based on a low power 733 MHz Via Eden processor with a VT8606 Northbridge and up to 512 MB of SDRAM. Internal mass storage can be in the form of either a CompactFlash card or a 2.5-inch disk drive. A "slim" CD-ROM drive can also be accommodated.

        Key features and specifications of the PPC-736XF series, according to Protech, include:
        • Processor -- 733 MHz Via Eden with VT8606 Northbridge
        • Memory -- 1 x DIMM, PC133 memory up to 512M SDRAM
        • Display (depending on model):
          • 15-inch -- XGA
          • 10.4-inch -- SVGA
          • 8.4-inch -- SVGA
          • 5-wire analog touchscreen option interfaces through USB
        • Storage -- IDE
          • CompactFlash slot, user accessible
          • 2.5-inch drive bay
        • Connectivity:
          • Gigabit Ethernet
          • 2 USB 1.1
          • 2 serial
          • parallel port, PS/2 keyboard and mouse
        • Audio -- line in, line out, mic in
        • Power -- 24 VDC, 60 to 80 watts depending on size
        All three units meet NEMA 4 and IP65 requirements for dust, water, shock, and vibration.
