Axiomtek announced a panel PC supporting Windows XP Embedded or CE, and targeting "space-limited" factory and building automation applications. The GOT-5100TL has a 10.4-inch touchscreen display, an AMD Geode LX800 CPU, up to 1GB of RAM, and CompactFlash or hard disk drive (HDD) storage, says...

Built around AMD's 500MHz Geode LX800 processor and CS5536 companion chip, Axiomtek's GOT-5100TL is obviously not designed to be a computing powerhouse. But, the company says, the device is compact, runs fanlessly, and is up to the job of running Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Embedded, or Windows CE.

The GOT-5100TL has a 10.4-inch touchscreen display that has a maximum resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. The system is said to comply with the NEMA 4 and IP65 standards for resistance to dust and liquids. It measures just 1.75 inches thick, and may be mounted on a desktop stand, on the wall, or via VESA-compatible brackets, according to Axiomtek.

Axiomtek says the GOT-5100TL can accept a maximum of 1GB DDR memory, installed in a single SO-DIMM slot. For persistent storage, there's room internally for both a 2.5-inch HDD and a CompactFlash card, the latter accessible via a slot on the left side of the unit.

The GOT-5100TL is also said to provide a Mini PCI expansion slot, capable of accepting an optional wireless networking card. It appears that accessing either the Mini PCI slot or the HDD bay on the device requires undoing six screws on the back of the GOT-5100TL; not too onerous a burden for what would probably be a one-time operation.

Ports arrayed on the bottom of Axiomtek's GOT-5100TL

Ports, shown in the photo above, include one RS232 port, one RS232/422/485 port, 10/100 Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output, and audio line out. There's also a fuse-protected 24VDC power input, designed to connect to an external AC adapter.

Features and specifications listed by Axiomtek for the GOT-5100TL include:
        • Processor -- AMD Geode LX800 clocked at 500MHz
        • Memory -- Accepts up to 1GB of DDR RAM in single SO-DIMM slot
        • Display -- 10.4-inch resistive touchscreen display with 800 x 600 resolution
        • Keys -- No controls except bottom-mounted power switch
        • Networking -- 10/100 Ethernet
        • Other ports:
          • 1 x VGA
          • 1 x RS232
          • 1 x RS232/422/485
          • 2 x USB 2.0
          • Audio -- line out
        • Expansion -- Mini PCI slot
        • Dimensions -- 11.53 x 9.29 x 1.76 inches (293 x 236 x 44.6mm)
        • Weight -- 3.75 pounds (1.7kg)
        • Operating temperature -- 0 to 45 deg. C (32 to 115 deg. F)
        • Power requirements -- 24VDC, via AC adapter that accepts inputs from 110VAC to 230VAC
Axiomtek did not release pricing for the GOT-5100TL, but said the device will be available during February. More information may be found on the company's website, here.
