Fault tolerant file system for Windows CE

Datalight announced a new fault tolerant file system for embedded devices that can act as a standalone file system or run in parallel with other file systems. The company says the file system, called Reliance, utilizes a transactional system, which uses transaction points while updating and storing data, resulting in enhanced data protection and system reliability.

Transaction points enable the file system to hold data safely in an area that is not being used by the previous transaction while updates occur, according to Datalight.

"System reliability has been a concern in the embedded computing industry for years," commented Roy Sherrill, director of Reliance engineering for Datalight. "We feel strongly that we have created a competitive solution for our customers by addressing both file system reliability and performance."

Datalight is offering Reliance file system in the form of resource kits for specific embedded operating systems. Kits are currently available for Microsoft Windows CE, WindRiver VxWorks, Accelerated Technology Nucleus, and Datalight ROM-DOS. Each kit includes binary versions of the software that have been pre-configured for drop-in usage in common environments specific to each operating system, supported with full source code.
