        First Windows Mobile 5.0 3G phone hits the airwaves

        The clamshell-style JasJar sports a full QWERTY keyboard and a 3.6-inch VGA (640 x 480) display that swivels around 180 degrees to create a tablet-style PDA, complete with touchscreen, according to i-mate. The screen operates in a choice of portrait and landscape modes when functioning as a PDA, but defaults to landscape when the keyboard is in use.

        The device runs Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 520 MHz Intel Bulverde (PXA27x) processor with 64 MB of SDRAM and 128 MB of Flash. It features dual cameras with built-in flash, and dual speakers for stereo sound, according to the company.

        In addition to the usual applications supplied with Windows Mobile, i-mate says the JasJar comes pre-loaded with Skype for Internet VoIP telephony and Computer Associates eTrust Antivirus software.

        i-mate lists the following key features and specifications for the JasJar:

        i-mate says the JasJar will be available in September. As of today, expansys.com is selling it in the UK.
