According to Datalight, FlashFX Pro ensures the integrity of data stored on resident flash, both NAND and NOR, and makes it simple for software applications to access the flash chip as if it were a hard drive. Additionally, it provides wear-leveling algorithms, which extend the life of resident flash by ensuring that erase zones are evenly used across the entire flash array. For example, unlike the native Windows CE Flash Media Driver, FlashFX Pro keeps explicit track of the erase counts, according to the company, resulting in longer flash life and lower warranty costs for Windows CE based devices.
Altogether, FlashFX Pro now supports over 200 flash chips, including NAND, NOR, hybrid flash, and NAND controllers, according to the company.
In addition to Windows CE, Datalight says FlashFX Pro development kits are available for use with several real-time operating systems, including Mentor Graphics Nucleus PLUS and VxWorks 6.4. Linux kernel 2.6 is also supported by means of the company's RTOS Porting Kits.
Version 3.10 will be available sometime "this quarter," according to Datalight. Pricing was not disclosed, but a free 30-day source evaluation is available with the signing of a Datalight source code agreement, the company says.
