Cadec says its PowerVue system can integrate fleet information with existing routing, mapping, and supply-chain management software. It can create "dashboards" of relevant information for each stakeholder in the supply chain, from dispatcher, to fleet manager, to CEO, to customer, the company says.
According to Cadec, PowerVue ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, automating paper-based administrative processes such as DOT logs and fuel tax. The system also tracks driver safety data such as speed, route/location, and idle time.
The system is said to have four main components, the first three being as follows:
- PowerVue Office -- A Web-based application platform that provides a real-time interface and central repository for all mobile asset data. PowerVue is said to be based on technologies from Oracle, Microsoft, HP, and EMC, and is hosted at a Tier 1, SAS70-compliant facility, for maximum security, scalability, and reliability.
- PowerVue Advanced Applications -- These add-on applications are said to include temperature tracking, door tracking, power take-off tracking, and trailer validation.
- PowerVue Bridge -- A Web-services integration framework claimed to provide "unlimited application integration capability" based on XML. According to Cadec, fleet data can be "easily" tied to other systems in a company's supply chain, such as dispatch, routing, fuel tax, DOT compliance, and supply chain management applications.
The fourth component is Cadec's PowerVue onboard computer (OBC), which, as noted above, runs Windows CE 5.0. Technical details supplied by the company were few, but the OBC is said to be a two-piece design featuring a base unit and a separate 7-inch touchscreen color LCD. Also included, according to the company, is a 12-channel GPS unit.
Cadec says the OBC can be updated over the Internet and can "seamlessly run custom/third party applications." It also includes four USB ports, for "easy offload of data" or for integrating multimedia systems.
The company said it will be demonstrating the device "publicly for the first time" at several shows this month. In addition, the company will hold a webinar on PowerVue Nov. 1 at 1:00 PM Eastern time. To register, go to the company's website,
