LXE has unveiled a forklift-mountable RFID reader that runs Windows CE. The "ultra-rugged" RX2 addresses a need for a simple, easy-to-install, vehicle-mounted reader for RFID-based forklift pallet movement applications in shipping, receiving, picking, and put-aways, according to the company.

LXE says the RX2 comes standard with an 802.11 radio and can run off its own battery or the lift truck's power. It supports reading EPC Class 0, Class 1, and C1G2 (Gen2) tags.

The RX2 mounts conveniently between the lift's forks

Software supplied with the RX2 includes an embedded FTP server; TCP/IP networking, reader, and device APIs; and a sample RFID tag logging application to help developers easily integrate RFID data into logistics applications, according to LXE. Device configuration and management are accomplished through either an RS232 serial or 802.11 network connection, using the RX2 Software Configuration Utility and RX2 Software Update Manager.

LXE will demonstrate the RX2 at the at Wal-Mart Supplier On-Boarding Forum and EPCglobal U.S. Tech Expo this week in Dallas.
