Ampro has released a set of four new low-power Pentium-based SBCs with support for Windows CE 5.0, in four form-factors: Mini-ITX, EPIC, EBX, and ETX. The four SBCs are aimed at high-performance multimedia embedded applications, such as imaging, gaming, medical information systems, and industrial automation, according to the...

The form-factors of the four new SBCs are:
        • MightyBoard -- Mini-ITX motherboard with standard PCI expansion slot
        • LittleBoard -- EBX form-factor, with PC/104 Plus expansion connectors
        • ReadyBoard -- EPIC module, with PCI-104 (PCI only) expansion connector
        • ETX -- ETX module

Ampro says it offers three processor options with the "lowest thermal design rating of the Intel Pentium and Celeron processors with embedded life cycle support." The 1.4GHz Low Voltage Pentium M 738, 1.0GHz Ultra Low Voltage Celeron M 373, and 600MHz Ultra Low Voltage Celeron M processors have comparable performance to 1 to 2 GHz Pentium 4 processors "at a fraction of the power dissipation." The boards operate without CPU or AGP graphics card fans.

All four boards feature a 400MHz front side bus with the Intel 855GME chipset and integrated Extreme Graphics 2 technology (AGP 4x). Both CRT and LVDS flat panel (LCD) interfaces are provided. Connectivity features include four USB 2.0 ports, four RS232/485, and dual Ethernet supporting both 10/100 and Gigabit (except the ETX 800).

Ampro says it used the Platform Builder tools for Windows CE to "quickly and efficiently" create a board support package (BSP) for Windows CE 5.0. The BSP contains device drivers and initialization for the video and peripherals of the each of the four boards, including USB 2.0 support that is not widely available, according to the company.

The 800 series products start at under $500 in production volumes and are available immediately, according to the company. A "QuickStart Kit" is available for each product that includes the Windows CE 5.0 BSP.
