It currently runs on Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0, requiring 1 MB of storage, 1 MB of memory, and a network connection. A backport to Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2002 is in the works.
Berka has ambitious plans for PocketPuTTY, including Smartphone compatibility, support for VGA and landscape screens, horizontal scrolling, font sizing, and more. He invites interested developers to contribute. "I look forward to have any skilled PocketPuTTY developer on board," Berka said. The ultimate goal is to have PocketPuTTY folded into the official PuTTY development tree.
PuTTY itself is a free implementation of the Telnet and SSH (Secure SHell) protocols for remotely logging into a Unix or Linux system from a Windows 32 platform. It also includes an xterm terminal emulator. Even though it was originally released in 1999, according to the change log, the current version is 0.58 and the package is still considered to be in "beta."
