        GPS handheld packs 2.5GB drive, runs Windows CE

        Mio introduced a pair of Windows CE powered GPS handhelds in Europe this week, including one with an internal 2.5 gigabyte hard drive. Both new handhelds are based on a 300MHz Intel Xscale processor, equipped with 64MB of SDRAM and 32MB of Flash memory and an SD/MMC expansion slot.

        The Mio268 and Mio269 both include built-in GPS modules based on a SiRFStarII chip with XTrack, coupled to an 18mm-square internal patch antenna. The Mio269's hard drive holds complete maps for 22 European countries with 600 MB left over for storing MP3 files.

        Mio lists the following key features and specifications for the Mio268 and Mio269 GPS handhelds:
        • Processor -- 300 MHz Intel Xscale
        • Memory -- 64MB SDRAM; 32MB Flash
        • Hard drive -- Mio269 includes a 1-inch, 2.5GB hard drive
        • Display:
          • 3.5-inch color transflective LCD
          • LED Backlight
          • 320 x 240 resolution, landscape mode
          • Resistive touchscreen
        • I/O ports:
          • USB 1.1 device port
          • IrDA
          • Built-in loudspeaker
          • 3.5 mm headphone jack
        • Expansion -- SD/MMC card slot, capacity up to 1GB
        • Software:
          • Operating System -- Windows CE 4.2
          • Navigation -- MioMap CE version 1.0, based on Navigon's Personal Navigator 4.2
        • Maps:
          • Mio268 -- maps are available via SD cards
          • Mio269 -- maps come preinstalled on hard drive
