        GPS-Enabled Pocket PC runs Windows Mobile 2003

        Navman has added a new Pocket PC to its line of navigation products for the consumer electronics market. The Personal Interactive Navigator (PiN) 570, running Windows Mobile 2003, features an integrated flip-up GPS receiver and comes with software for turn-by-turn navigation.

        The PiN 570 is based on a 266 MHz Samsung processor with 64 MB of RAM. Its display is a 3.5-inch QVGA transflective LCD touchscreen. Map data is stored on a 128MB memory card accessed through the device's MMC/SD (SDIO) expansion slot.

        The device runs Navman's SmartST 2005 navigation software. The company lists the following features of SmartST 2005:
        • Turn-by-turn directions available in both male and female voices and a choice of 9 languages
        • Multiple Navigation Views:
          • 3D map view
          • 2D map view
          • Quick next-maneuver icon view with 2D mini-map
          • text-based instruction list that displays the next four maneuvers
        • Journey Planner -- define up to 12 preplanned stops en route to a final destination
        • My Points-of-Interest (POI) -- define individual POIs, or download and import third-party POI databases
        • Active My POI -- defin alarms to signify approaching user-selectable points of interest
        • Nearest POI -- shows shortest route to a specific POI such as the nearest gas station, parking lot, etc.
        Navman lists additional SmartST 2005 capabilities that include integration with Pocket Outlook for routing to contact addresses, Back-on-Track rerouting when off-course, a zip code search tool, the ability to pre-select areas to avoid, a town-to-town routing function, a list of favorite and recent destinations, and a complete route summary.

        The PiN 570 is currently available from electronics retailers at a suggested price of just under $500, according to the company.
