Edge Products is shipping a new in-cab diesel performance controller that uses Windows CE as its embedded operating system. The Edge A2 replaces conventional gauges and enables on-the-fly adjustment of five enhanced power levels, according to the company.

The A2 is based on a 300MHz Freescale i.MX21 processer and features a QVGA (320 x 240) LCD touch-screen display that can show up to 20 engine parameters in real time, according to the company. The unit can also display "check engine" codes along with explanatory text.

Edge says the A2 works with the company's series of "Juice" plug-in modules that communicate with a vehicle's ECM (engine contol module) to monitor deisel engine performance and increase power or improve fuel efficiency. Individual Juice modules are available for specific truck models from Ford, Chrysler, Chevy, and Jeep.

The A2 includes a GPS receiver with an active external antenna for reliable reception even in urban areas, according to Edge. The built-in TomTom navigation software includes pre-loaded US maps, along with a suite of navigation functions. It provides both visual and spoken route guidance, and displays time and distance to destination as well as time of arrival.

"This product is the most powerful and comprehensive aftermarket performance device for any vehicle," a company spokesman said.
