The Nuvifone M10, detailed in brief on an Asus web page, appears to be the third phone resulting from a joint venture between the computer manufacturer and PND (personal navigation device) vendor Garmin. The companies perviously offered the Linux-based Nuvifone G60 and the Windows Mobile-based Nuvifone M20 (right) which has been offered in the U.S. by AT&T.
The M20 featured a 528MHz processor, 2.8-inch touchscreen with 640 x 480 pixel resolution, and a three megapixel camera. Compared to this, the new Nuvifone M10 (above) features a variety of hardware improvements, according to Asus, such as:
Also confirmed by Asus is the use of Windows Mobile 6.5.3 ("Maldives"), which, as we have previously reported, includes modifications that make the operating system easier to use with one's fingers. With a home screen appearance very similar to that of the M20, however, the M10 apparently continues to offer an exclusive Garmin-Asus user interface.
Further information
Garmin and Asus did not offer additional hardware details, but said the Nuvifone M10 will be available next month for $13,900 Taiwanese dollars (about $435). We'd expect the phone to be shown off at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, which runs from Feb. 15 to 18 in Barcelona, Spain.
The Asus listing of the new Nuvifone M10 may be found on the company's website, here.
