Arcom has made a long-term commitment to sell a fanless embedded single-board computer (SBC) that supports Microsoft's Windows Embedded OSes. The embedded hardware specialist says it will sell its EBX form-factor Geode-based SBC-GX1 -- first introduced in 2001 -- until the year 2010 and beyond.

The SBC-GX1 measures 5.75-inches by 8-inches (EBX size), and is based on a 300MHz AMD Geode processor. It offers graphics accelerated CRT and TFT flat panel support, 10/100baseTx Ethernet, four serial ports (RS-232/RS-422/RS-485), digital I/O, and expansion via a PCI slot, CompactFlash socket, and the industry standard PC/104 bus.

Arcom supoprts the SBC-GX1 on "all leading embedded operating systems," it says, including Windows CE .NET and XP Embedded. A CE/UL approved industrial compact enclosure (ICE), and a simple add-on module (DC1) to drive a low cost D-STN flat panel display directly from the TFT output signals, are also available.
