DSL's GX2 ETX module is based on an AMD Geode GX 533 processor clocked at 400 MHz, and it accomodates up to 512 MB of onboard DDR RAM. A key advantage of the GX2 ETX module, according to DSL, is its low power consumption. The module requires 1.1 amps of 5VDC when running at 400 MHz with 128 MB of RAM, and as little as 27 mA in suspend-to-RAM mode.

DSL lists the following key features and specifications for the GX2 ETX:
        • Processor -- AMD Geode 533 at 400 MHz
        • Memory -- up to 512 MB onboard DDR RAM
        • Display interface -- TFT and CRT video controller
        • Expansion -- Full ISA and PCI bus
        • I/O ports:
          • Mouse and keyboard
          • E-IDE
          • 4 USB
          • 2 serial
          • parallel
          • IrDA
          • Audio -- AC97 codec
        About ETX

The ETX module format was originated by JUMPtec, which was subsequently acquired by Kontron. The modules are generally installed on application specific baseboards much like an integrated circuit component, in a "host" site comprised of four low profile, surface mount connectors. The baseboard provides the drive electronics and physical connectors for the I/O originating on the ETX module. Additional I/O and application-specific subsystems can be integrated on the baseboard, designed as PCI or ISA bus peripherals.

        Pricing and Availability

DSL expects to begin shipping the GX2 within several weeks. Preliminary GX2 pricing is 270 in quantities of 100, but the company says it hopes to reduce that price once production begins.

DSL will also offer an ETX development system for the GX2 that consists of a motherboard and 3.5-inch hard drive The roughly 10-inch-square board brings out all of the features of the GX2 to standard connectors. It also includes a socket for a DiskOnChip, enabling fully solid-state operation.
