Getac's new MH132 is one of the few Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphones to have been announced since Microsoft's release of Windows Phone 7. That means that while the device doesn't have a finger-friendly capacitive touchscreen, it does provide access to a very wide variety of enterprise-ready applications, something that Getac obviously plans to exploit. The MH132 is also unlike any Windows Phone 7 device released to date in that it is ruggedized, meeting both MIL-STD-810G and IP65 standards. The phone can resist at least 26 drops from a height of five feet, and 250 1.6-foot tumbles, according to Getac.
As the photo at right shows, the MH132 pulls off this ruggedness without appearing particularly bulked-up (it measures 5.35 x 2.76 x 0.98 inches), and it weighs a reasonable 7.58 ounces, according to the company. The device has a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, Getac says.
According to Getac, the MH132 uses a Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset clocked at 600MHz, providing it with GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/HSUPA quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) connectivity. High-speed downlink (HSDPA) provides transfer rates up to 7.2Mbps, high-speed uplink (HSUPA) up to 2Mbps, the company adds.
The MH132 also includes a GPS receiver, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.1, says Getac. A 3.2 megapixel camera is also cited.
Getac says the MH132's 1030mAh battery provides the phone with up to four hours' talk time. The phone has 256MB of RAM, 512MB of flash storage, and a microSD expansion slot, adds the company.
