Gizmondo Europe has announced a deal to put ALK Technologies's CoPilot satellite navigation application on its Windows CE-based, GPS-enabled Gizmondo multi-entertainment handheld. Gizmondo Navigator 2006 will provide powerful "trip calculation" and detailed street maps, enabling navigation to a specific house number, complete with...

turn-by-turn voice instructions, according to Gizmondo.

Gizmondo Navigator 2006 will be supplied by region on SDIO cards, Gizmondo says. Regions initially available will include the UK and Europe.

Starting with its initial announcement, Gizmondo has consistently emphasized the GPS capabilities of its Windows CE-powered game console. A number of games, both released and in development, combine GPS functionality with the device's GPRS cellular communications. Navigator 2006 extends the Gizmondo's GPS-enabled repertoire to incorporate turn-by-turn navigation for use in car and on foot, according to Gizmondo.

Gizmondo Navigator 2006 will be available in the UK for GBP99 and in the rest of Europe for GBP199 beginning September 30th, according to the company. An in-car cradle and car charger will also be available for use with the new software, priced at GBP29.99.

The company did not comment on when Gizmondo Navigator might be available in the US. The conosle itself was originally slated to launch in North America this month, but was subsequently delayed until the fourth quarter.
