HP announced a revamped Mini 210 netbook in a controversial "preppy pink" color scheme. Less problematically, the device is now available with a 1.83GHz Atom N470 processor, and will reportedly soon switch to DDR3 memory and new Atom N455/475 CPUs.

HP's Mini 210, first announced in Januarywith a 1.6GHz "Pineview" Atom N450 processor, came in relatively sober silver, red, blue, and red color schemes. The netbook is now available with a "preppy pink" color scheme (below), featuring decorations molded in multiple layers via "HP Imprint 3D" technology.

Apparently designed to drain users of all residual testosterone, the design has been described by CNet U.K. as looking like it fell out of the ugly tree, hit every branch on the way down, then climbed back up and fell out again." As our photos show, users can't escape the plaid pattern by opening up the netbook, since the motif continues onto the device's touchpad.

The Mini 210 possesses some inner beauty, however, in that HP now offers it with a 1.8GHz Atom N470 processor upgrade. In addition, the device will soon switch to DDR3 memory and come with Intel's yet-to-be-announced Atom N455 (1.6GHz) and N475 (1.8GHz) CPUs, according to German website nDevil.com.

Our sister site eWEEK.com quoted an HP product manager as saying, "In business, coming into a meeting with a classy-looking notebook says a lot about you as a business individual. Your laptop speaks volumes about you. If you have a classy-looking one, people like to check them out. Can't hurt your image!"

The above probably related to other new HP notebooks, however. For further information on those, see eWEEK's coverage, here, and a related slideshow, here.

HP also announced an "integrated" six-cell battery for its earlier Mini 110 model. The device now provides up to eight hours of cordless operation, the company says.
