HP rolls out Digital Entertainment Center, Media Center Extender

It may look like an ordinary DVD player, but HP's z545 Digital Entertainment Center (shown on the left) is actually a full-featured multimedia PC packaged to look great in a home theater or family room.

The z545 is one of the first devices to hit the market running Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) 2005, unveiled last month in Hollywood.

The z545 -- which boasts a 3 GHz Pentium 4 processor, 200 GB internal hard drive, built-in DVD writer, dual RF TV tuners, and a long list of interfaces ports and audio/video features -- is meant to serve as a central repository for all of a household's digital media, including music, movies, TV, and photos. An optional Media Center Extender (shown on the right), also available from HP, extends the z545's reach throughout the home.

Interestingly, the z545 appears to be a Windows-based re-spin of an earlier, Linux-based model (shown on the left) that HP unveiled three years ago at the Tech X NY trade show in New York, and which was sold for some time as the de100c Digital Entertainment Center.

Learn more about the capabilities and specs of HP's new Windows MCE-powered z545 Digital Entertainment Center and Windows CE-powered x5400 Media Center Extender from this WindowsForDevices.com Device Profile. . .
