HTC has released a Windows Mobile 6 phone that features 3G/HSDPA connectivity and a slide-out keyboard. The S730 also includes WiFi wireless networking and a 2.4-inch display, according to the company.

HTC describes the S730 as an enhanced version of its S710, which it says was its first smartphone to feature Windows Mobile 6. (The S710 was described as a "really good phone" by Microsoft Enterprise Mobile Solution Specialist Jason Langridge, who recently featured it in an online video for the company's on10.net site.)

The S710 had GSM/GPRS/EDGE quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) capabilities, which the S730 retains, adding 2100MHz HSDPA/UMTS to the mix. Other enhancements include replacement of the S710's 201MHz TI OMAP850 processor with a 400MHz Qualcomm MSM7200.

As before, the device has a five-way navigation pad teamed with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The case, now finished in black and silver-gray, has a slightly more squared off appearance and has grown very slightly. Once again, though, the S730 offers a 2.4-inch display, which switches to landscape mode when the keyboard is open.

Other salient features on the S730 are WiFi, streaming of stereo audio via Bluetooth, and dual cameras. Since this is not a touchscreen device, it does not feature HTC's TouchFLO interface, but the underlying Windows Mobile 6 Standard operating system is given a proprietary "HTC Home" screen that displays time and weather display, plus favorite contacts, according to the company.
