        HTC introduces conservatively styled PDA/phone

        HTC has introduced a new PDA/phone running Windows Mobile 5. The P6300, whose conservative styling has been criticized as "bland and dated," is a tri-band GSM/GPRS PDA/phone with a 2.0 megapixel camera and both WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

        According to HTC, the P6300 is targeted at mobile enterprise environments. Key specifications of the device, as listed by the company, include:
        • Processor -- Samsung SC244X running at 400 MHz
        • Memory -- 128MB SDRAM; 256MB flash
        • Display:
          • 3.5-inch LCD with touchscreen and backlight
          • 240 X 320 pixel resolution with 65,536 colors
        • Camera -- 2.0 megapixel
        • I/O port -- HTC ExtUSB (11-pin connector that combines mini-USB and audio jack)
        • Audio
          • built-in speaker and microphone; supports hands-free operation
          • headphone jack
          • AMR/AAC/WAV/WMA/MP3 codec
        • Expansion -- SD memory card
        • Wireless:
          • Tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM/GPRS
          • 802.11 b/g WiFi
          • Bluetooth 2.0
        • Dimensions -- 5 X 2.75 X 0.75 inches (129.7 X 69.8 x 18.8 mm)
        • Weight -- 7 ounces with battery
        • Battery life -- up to 200 hours standby time, five hours talk time
        Notwithstanding the conservative appearance of the P6300, HTC has debuted a number of innovative handheld device designs this year, including the Advantage PDA/phone running Windows Mobile 6, and the Shift UMPC (ultra-mobile PC), which is based on Intel's Ultra Mobile Platform 2007 and runs Microsoft's Windows Vista Business edition.

        The P6300 is available now. Pricing has not been disclosed.
