ExtremeTech has published a step-by-step guide to one simple method of getting Windows 95 or 98 running on Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP). The method uses an open source x86 emulator called Bochs, which supports a number of embedded operating systems.

The project described by ExtremeTech requires a "hackable" PSP, along with a copy of Bochs built for the PSP. The article appears to provide fairly detailed installation and configuration suggestions. While the emphasis is on Linux, much of the process would be applicable to booting a Windows 95 image created from a virtual machine using Virtual PC or VMWare.

According to the article, these are what you'll need:
        • Hackable PSP (i.e. one that can run homebrew apps)
        • Memory stick with enough space for Bochs files and virtual hard drive image (512MB or 1GB)
        • Virtual PC or VMWare (free trials are available)
        • Virtual DriveCreation software (free trials are available)
        • Windows 95 or Windows 98
The article can be found here.
