        Handheld GPS plays multimedia files, runs Windows CE

        Globalsat is set to introduce a new handheld GPS navigation device that also plays music and videos, and displays photos. The GV-201 runs Windows CE 4.2 and incorporates the latest GPS receiver chipset from SiRF, according to the company.

        The GV-201 will be available with either North American or European maps and will offer turn-by-turn directions in a number of languages, according to Globalsat.

        Globalsat lists the following key features and specifications for the GV-201:
        • Processor -- 266 MHz Samsung ARM920T
        • Memory -- 64 MB SDRAM, 64 MB Flash
        • Display -- 4-inch diagonal QVGA TFT LCD with touchscreen
        • GPS receiver:
          • SiRF Star III High sensitivity chipset
          • 20 channels "all-in-view" tracking
          • built-in antenna
          • MMCX-type connector for optional active external antenna
          • Average acquisition time:
            • hot start -- 1 sec
            • warm start -- 38 sec
            • cold start -- 42 sec
            • reacquisition -- 100ms
        • Audio -- built-in speaker, stereo headphone jack
        • Expansion:
            SD card slot
          • USB 2.0
        • Multimedia applications included:
          • MP3 music player
          • Movie player
          • Digital photo viewer
        • Languages supported:
          • Standard -- English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch
          • Optional in European market -- Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Turkish, Russian, Hungarian, Czech
        • Battery -- 1300mAh rechargeable Lithium-ion
        • Dimensions -- 5.3 x 3.5 x 1 inches (135 x 90 x 24.8 mm)
        The GV-201 is expected to be available this month, according to Globalsat. The company did not disclose pricing.
