The Algiz 7 has a PCI Express slot that hosts a Qualcomm GOBI (global mobile internet technology) cellular modem, said to be capable of working with networks worldwide including HSDPA/UMTS (800/850/900/1900/2100MHz), quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz), and dual-band EV-DO/CDMA (800/1900MHz). Now, the unit has been certified by Verizon Wireless for operation on its network, says Handheld US.
Dale Kyle, president of Handheld US, stated, "Many of our U.S. customers have asked for Verizon Wireless compatibility. The flexibility of the Algiz 7 gives our customers the opportunity to use the mobile network that serves them best. Adding Verizon Wireless, Americas largest and most reliable wireless network to the Algiz 7 will be a tremendous benefit."
The Algiz 7 includes a seven-inch, "sunlight readable" touchscreen display with 1024 x 600 resolution. Like its larger siblings -- there is also an Algiz 10 -- the device is said to meet MIL-STD-810G and IP65 standards for withstanding dust, water, vibration, drops, and extreme temperatures. According to Handheld, the tablet is operable up to 15,000 feet, withstands multiple four-foot drops, and may be operated from -9 to 140 deg. F (-23 to 60 deg. C).
The tablet includes a two megapixel camera, a waterproof RS232 port, two USB 2.0 ports (one of these also waterproof), an Ethernet port, and audio I/O, Handheld says. Wireless networking (802.11b/g) and Bluetooth 2.0 are included too, the company adds.
Handheld says the Algiz 7 has ten keys, including a power key, a five-way navigator, and three programmable hotkeys that offer up to six functions. A menu key controls screen brightness, audio volume, wireless on/off, and other system parameters, the company adds.
Battery life for the 2.42-pound Algiz is said to be at least six hours, via two 2400mAh packs, each of which is said to be hot-swappable.
Specifications listed by Handheld US for the Algiz 7 include the following:
According to Handheld US, the Algiz 7 is available now, though pricing was not released. Verizon activation is open both to new customers and to those who already own the device, the company adds.
