        Handheld navigation, entertainment device runs Windows CE

        Averatec is shipping a new Windows CE-based handheld GPS device that also supports a wide range of multimedia capabilities. The Voya 320 is described as a "personal navigation and entertainment system" that plays music and videos when it's not providing turn-by-turn navigation.

        The Voya 320 offers the usual array of navigation functions such as automatic route calculation with audible and visual turn-by-turn directions. It comes pre-loaded with Navteq street-level map data covering the contiguous 48 states, plus a database of more than 1.6 million points of interest, according to Averatec. It even provides an alert when it detects that it is in a vehicle that is exceeding the speed limit.

        The new device is a successor to the Voya 350, introduced last July.

        Key Voya 320 features and specs are said to include:
        • Processor -- Samsung S3C2440A at 300MHz
        • Memory -- 64MB SDRAM, 32MB flash
        • Display -- 3.5-inch QVGA TFT LCD with touchscreen, 16-bit color
        • I/O ports:
          • mini USB 1.1
          • audio -- built-in 1W Speaker, 3.5mm stereo headphone jack
        • Expansion -- SD/MMC slot
        • GPS:
          • 12-channel SiRF III chipset
          • built-in patch antenna
        • Operating system -- Windows CE 4.2
        • Dimensions -- 4.33 x 3.07 x 0.83 inches (110 x 78 x 21 mm)
        According to Averatec, the Voya 320 has an "anticipated street price" of $299, and is available exclusively at OfficeMax and the company's on-line store.
