        "Headless" PC/104 SBC runs Windows CE on Elan SoC

        VersaLogic is shipping a new, low-power, PC/104-Plus single-board computer (SBC) based on an AMD Elan SC520 system-on-chip (SoC) processor. The Lynx SBC supports Windows CE and is aimed at "headless" embedded applications such as monitoring, control, and communications equipment, according to the company.

        In addition to the AMD Elan SC520 processor, the SBC includes 64 MB of soldered-on SDRAM, an Ethernet LAN interface, hard and floppy drive controllers, and various serial and parallel ports. According to Versalogic, the Lynx SBC requires less than 5W total power. Additionally, the board includes a customizable, field-upgradeable, "OEM-enhanced" BIOS, and it supports Windows CE, Linux, VxWorks, QNX, and other embedded OSes, Versalogic says.

        The company lists the following key features and specifications for the Lynx SBC:
        • Processor -- AMD Elan SC520
        • Memory -- 64 MB SDRAM soldered on the board

          • CompactFlash socket
          • IDE and floppy interfaces
        • Display controller -- none onboard; available via PC/104 or PC/104-Plus add-on modules
        • I/O ports:
          • Ethernet
          • 4 serial ports
          • Parallel printer port
          • PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports
        • Expansion -- PC/104-Plus stackthrough bus, including both ISA and PCI signals
        Availability

        The Lynx SBC is currently available from stock, priced at $399 in "OEM quantities," according to Versalogic.
