Speech technology specialist NeoSpeech unveiled text-to-speech (TTS) support for devices based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile and Windows CE embedded software platforms today at the AVIOS~SpeechTEK conference, co-located with Microsoft Mobile DevCon in San Francisco. The company plans to release its first TTS software development kit (SDK) targeting mobile and embedded devices this week, which it says can...
be used to create "high quality" TTS-enabled applications for devices such as mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs, and telematic terminals.
Possible mobile applications for NeoSpeech's TTS technology might include name and number confirmation for voice-activated dialing, and voice output for location-based navigation systems, the company says.
NeoSpeech claims its mobile and embedded TTS solution provides the same, high quality as its desktop and network solutions, and comprises the Microsoft .NET initiative, a platform, user experience, and set of advanced software services to make all devices work together and connect seamlessly.
"By extending our offering of advanced text-to-speech to compact devices, we are providing a framework for developers to create TTS-enabled applications for mobile services," commented NeoSpeech CEO Yoon Kim. "Our hope is that by supporting multiple platforms and devices for mobile computing, users will be able to develop as many applications as possible in the mobile world."
NeoSpeech says its VoiceText technology, available in several languages, generates natural-sounding voices from text input. The technology can process any size or type of text in a wide range of applications, delivering the highest level of accuracy and quality, according to NeoSpeech.
