(Click here for larger image)The IPTV industry is rapidly moving toward advanced STBs that feature both
H.264 and
VC-1, says Sigma. These advanced codecs enable telecommunications operators to deliver high-quality video services, such as live broadcasts and video-on-demand (VOD) over bandwidth-limited, broadband networks. By deploying STBs that incorporate all codecs, operators ensure that their investment in customer premise equipment can support future content streams in any major format, according to Sigma.
In addition to Sigma's EM8620L media processor, the STB4000C uses an x86-based host CPU to provide a simple environment for software development, according to TSINet. This allows quick customization of set-top boxes for specific customers and also lets Telcos rapidly deploy new services, TSINet adds.
TISNet's new STB4000C IP STB is expected to be available next month.
