Horizons is a hosted technology that customers access via a Web interface. This distinguishes it from many competitors, such as as
Avocent LANDesk, Microsoft
System Center Mobile Device Manager,
Nokia Intellisync, Novell ZENWorks, and
Sybase iAnywhere.
The new on-demand deployment feature is said to permit customers to better represent relationships by creating new domains and users. Assigning licenses to devices and authorizing them now takes just minutes, according to the company.
The administrator console's user interface has been improved with easier menu navigation, Perlego says. In addition, more device data is collected and available to the user, providing administrators with greater control over the devices that have been deployed.
The product's three modules, as described by the company, are:
- Horizons Backup -- save and restores personal information stored on wireless devices
- Horizons Update -- creates a custom-branded mobile catalog of downloadable files
- Horizons Remote -- lets administrators issue commands directly to field-deployed devices
Perlego claims that Horizons Update makes it easy for users to locate desired content for download, and simplifies the process of delivering software upgrades to devices in the field. "By distributing important software upgrades over-the-air, this systematically decreases the costs associated with disseminating critical software updates," the company says.
The Horizons Remote is said to let carriers or IT departments execute any command a user can initiate manually. If a device is lost, this module enables the device to be backed up, hard reset, wiped clean, or even disabled.
In addition to Windows Mobile (including Standard, Professional, and Classic), Horizons also supports UIQ 3 and Symbian Series 60 v3 platforms, Perlego said.
Horizons version 3.7 appears to be available now, but pricing was not disclosed.
