Interactive Intelligence is adding Windows Mobile devices to the list of clients supported by its IP telephony software. In addition to basic IP telephony functions, "Interaction Client, Mobile Edition" will offer mobile device users access to Microsoft Outlook contacts, presence management, call control, multi-party conferencing, call recording, and text messaging, according to the company.

The new Mobile Edition client will work with networks that provide access to voice and data simultaneously via HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) protocols, the company said. It will also be usable on devices using WiFi for data connection and a cellular network for the audio path.

According to Joseph A. Staples, Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing for Interactive Intelligence, "The Mobile Edition client builds on our existing interfaces for desktop computer and laptop access, as well as access from SIP-based soft phones at the desktop."

"Typically, mobile workers have to sacrifice functionality when they are not in the office," noted Staples. "As part of our unified communications software suite, however, the Mobile Edition client will provide access for mobile workers to key telephony functionality from an easy-to-use interface supported by the most popular wireless telephony devices. The benefit to users is maximum flexibility and efficiency in managing interactions anywhere at anytime."

Interactive Intelligence specializes in business communications software and services for "contact center automation and enterprise IP telephony." The company, founded in 1994, claims to have more than 2,500 customers worldwide.

Interaction Client, Mobile Edition is expected to become available in North America in the fourth quarter of 2007. Pricing has not been disclosed.
