The EPC-8612F is based on a 1 GHz Celeron M Ultra-Low Voltage processor, and comes with up to 1 GB of DDR RAM. The 8.8 x 10 x 2.5-inch box accommodates a choice of 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard disk drives, with up to 500 GB capacity for storing captured video streams.

According to Protech, captured video streams are compressed with MPEG4. The 4-channel version captures MPEG video at 50 (PAL) or 60 (NTSC) frames per second. The 16-channel model does 25 (PAL) or 30 (NTSC) frames per second. A video SDK (software development kit) is bundled with each unit.

Other interfaces include 10/100 Ethernet, dual USB 2.0, and a pair of serial ports.

The EPC-8612F, which appears to be available now, also supports Linux, according to Protech. Pricing was not revealed.
