Beckhoff is shipping a new family of panel PCs that run a choice of Windows CE or Windows XP Embedded, and feature 12- to 19-inch displays. The CP62xx series, based on 1 to 1.8 GHz ultra-low-voltage Intel processors, targets industrial automation applications.

The CP62xx series is based on an in-house-developed 3.5-inch form-factor SBC (single-board computer), according to Beckhoff. The SBC is powered by 1 to 1.8 GHz Intel ULV Celeron, Celeron M, or Pentium M processors, along with up to 2 GB of DDR RAM. A CompactFlash socket, accessible from the rear of the panel PC, enables a choice between Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded as the embedded OS. The high-speed 1.8 GHz Pentium M processor option includes a fan cartridge that attaches to the rear of the panel PC's housing.

With the addition of the Beckhoff's TwinCAT automation software, the CP62xx panel PCs are "ideally suited" to machine and plant automation applications, Beckhoff says. A built-in mini PCI slot can be used to customize the devices to support fieldbuses such as PROFIBUS, CANopen, or DeviceNet, or for an additional Ethernet card, according to the company.
