Intrinsyc Software introduced two new software components for wireless mobile device applications. According to Intrinsyc, i-RIL (Intrinsyc Radio Interface Layer) and i-MUX (Intrinsyc Multiplexer), which are derived from the company's line of wireless handheld development platforms, can be used in designs based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs and Smartphones.
i-RIL is said to provide a framework that enables wireless voice or data applications using Windows Mobile software to seamlessly communicate with a GSM/GPRS or CDMA2000 modem. It comes pre-configured off-the-shelf to interface to a wide variety of wireless modems, the company said.
i-MUX is said to enable multiple and simultaneous streams of data between a device's applications and its wireless modem. Using i-MUX, modem and mobile device makers can create wireless devices and applications that perform multiple functions simultaneously, including obtaining modem status information such as signal strength, performing web browsing, sending and receiving text messages and placing voice calls, the company said.
Julie Wymetalek, partner marketing manager for the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft, said "Intrinsyc's i-RIL and i-MUX are key technologies that support this growth and add value to manufacturers that are building devices based on Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs and Smartphones".
i-RIL and i-MUX are both currently available for a variety of wide area wireless modems including modems supplied by Siemens, Nokia, Samsung, Ubinetics, Infineon, Optimay, and TTPCom, Intrinsyc said. The company said it can also customize both products to support other requirements.
