According to Intrinsyc, the project involved a full Microsoft Windows CE port, including SecureSD drivers, Bluetooth integration, power management, and nVidia 3D graphics driver development. Other aspects of the project that relied on Intrinsyc's wireless telephony software suite are said to include:
- Modem interface, GPRS integration, SDK, dialer example, SMS engine and control panel applets
- Use of the XML-based UI skin engine; this allowed fully customizable, but very easy branding of the UI and also multiple, user switchable UIs to be provided on a single unit
- Development of several custom applications, including the camera application, while integrating standard Microsoft Windows CE components such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Media Player, and off-the-shelf, third party IP such as an MMS engine
The
Gizmondo is a multifunction entertainment device that incorporates GPRS wireless communications, an MPEG4 decoder, a digital camera and GPS, among other features. The device won an award for
"Design Solution of the Year" last fall in London, shortly before its retail roll-out in Europe. It is expected to
reach US stores sometime this spring.
