Iowa judicial system adds Sygate security to XPe-based thin clients

Sygate Technologies announced today that its security technology is being deployed by the state of Iowa judicial system on all of its Windows XP Embedded based HP t5700 thin client systems (pictured at left) located throughout 99 counties.

According to Sygate, Security Agent 4.0 is compatible with Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 1 (SP1), as well as with the Service Pack 2 (SP2) update released today in Technology Preview form by Microsoft for download and testing.

Sygate's Security Agent 4.0 for Windows XP Embedded, announced earlier this month, combines an advanced application-centric firewall and application-based intrusion prevention engine with enhanced network-based virus protection, in a 4MB single-agent footprint optimized for flash-based embedded devices, the company says.

According to Sygate, the presence of the Sygate Windows XP Embedded security agent in the HP thin clients ensures that all of the Iowa judicial department's thin clients used for mission critical activities -- such as accessing or reporting court data, or allowing the general public to look up public records in the court house -- are kept in a trusted state and in compliance with corporate security policies.

"Embedded systems have typically represented a challenging aspect of enterprise security, yet our view has always been that you can't have a successful protection strategy unless you protect all of your endpoints," explained John De Santis, CEO of Sygate.

Sygate Security Agent 4.0 for Windows XP Embedded is now available directly from Sygate and its Windows XP Embedded Partners, including Bsquare in North America and Macnica in Japan, Sygate says.
