(Click here for a larger view of the AT&T Incite)LG was recently ranked by ABI Research as the world's
fourth largest handset vendor. Earlier this month, it announced a
deal with Microsoft that is apparently the harbinger of more Windows Mobile devices to come.
Following the unfortunate practice of many carriers, AT&T doesn't reveal what processor or clock speed the Incite employs. The company does say that the device has 128MB of RAM, 256MB of flash storage, and accepts up to 32GB of RAM via a microSD expansion slot.
The Incite apparently sports a somewhat-customized version of
Windows Mobile 6.1 that can be finger-operated and has a "configurable drag-and-drop favorites menu." An on-screen virtual keyboard, usable in either portrait or landscape modes, has haptic keys that provide vibratory feedback when they're touched, says AT&T.
The phone offers GPS, with "AT&T Navigator" software supplied by
TeleNav. Turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions, traffic alerts, and re-rerouting are all featured, the carrier says.
Other wireless capabilities include quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100MHz). In addition, we seem to be entering an era when WiFi and Bluetooth can almost be taken for granted on smartphones, and the Incite duly provides these ingredients.
The Incite has a three-inch touchscreen, with 400 x 240 pixel resolution and a large bezel that gives the device something of a retro appearance. Up-to-date, however, is the integral accelerometer, said to automatically rotate the display from portrait to landscape modes as the phone is rotated.
Finally, the Incite's camera has three megapixel resolution, and is capable of capturing both still images and live video. The phone's battery pack provides up to 8.7 hours of talk time and 21 days of standby, adds AT&T.
