[Updated Aug. 12] -- Laplink Software has released a retail version of its browser-based remote access software to extend the current subscription-based service to a wider market.

The new "boxed version" of Laplink Everywhere 4 provides ongoing unlimited remote access to files, email, Internet favorites, and PIM data, and unlimited remote control, according to the company.

Everywhere 4 combines remote control with a unique Web interface for streamlined remote access from any Web-enabled device including mobile phones, according to Laplink. The company claims that the product's integration with Google Desktop Search provides the "fastest possible" method to locate remote files and emails from Web-enabled devices without launching a remote control session.

"Laplink Everywhere 4 is a big hit with consumers, especially the ability to google a remote PC using a mobile device," said Laplink CEO Thomas Koll.

Everywhere 4 is currently available from stores and online retailers at a suggested list price of $49.95. The package includes a 1-year free subscription to FirewallConnect, a means of connecting to a remote PC through existing firewall and router configurations. After the first year, users have the option of either opening ports in the firewall to continue accessing remote data, or purchasing an additional year of FirewallConnect for $45.95.
