Atinav has upgraded its Bluetooth protocol stack and profiles to fully comply with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group's second generation specification, which increases data rates up to three times and reduces power consumption by up to half.

The aveLink Bluetooth Suite supports Windows CE, among other software platforms, according to the company.

Atinav says the new implementation enhances the ability to use several functions or devices simultaneously, and enables the transfer of large data files, making use of the increased bandwidth. Additionally, reduced Bluetooth power consumption is expected to allow next generation devices to last up to twice as long on a battery charge.

The enhanced functions will allow Bluetooth technology to be used in devices and applications in which bandwidth and power are critical, Atinav says. Some examples include CD-quality audio streaming, digital image transfer, and laser printing.

"With Bluetooth 2.0, Atinav will be able to enhance its current solution offerings within our three core areas: mobile phones, audio devices, and printing/imaging. Practically, this offers our customers the attractive option of developing current products with additional features as well as introducing brand new products to the market." said Atinav vice president of emerging technologies Rajesh Rabindranath.
