Microsoft on Jan. 30 will host a "live chat" focused on the use of Windows XP Embedded in the point-of-sale (POS) industry. The one-hour event will offer attendees an opportunity to hear from -- and ask questions of -- members of Microsoft's WEPOS and POS for .NET teams.

According to Shayna Begun, a program manager on Microsoft's Vertical Industry and Embedded Windows (VIEW) team, "Not only will the Windows XP Embedded product team be there to chat with you and answer questions as they have in the past, but we will also have experts from the Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS) and POS for .NET teams available, as well as one of our MVPs, Sean Liming."

Liming is the author of a recently published book about WEPOS, titled Windows Embedded for Point of Service / POS for .NET Step-By-Step.

POS for .NET is Microsoft's .NET implementation of the Unified POS (UPOS) standard, which enables developers to create a single application that supports POS devices from different equipment manufacturers.

The one-hour live chat begins at 10:00 PST on Jan. 30. To register for the event, visit Microsoft's live chat site, here.

"Please come and help us improve our products!," Microsoft says.
