The terminals implement an "open architecture" based on a PC-compatible platform running Windows XP Embedded, which permits easy connection of third party devices, the company says. Also, individual modules are quickly and easily replaceable ("hot swappable"), which ensures minimal on-site service and downtime.

The Extrema M is based on an 850 MHz Intel Celeron Coppermine processor with 64 to 512 MB of SDRAM memory. The operator interface consists of a 10.4-inch color TFT LCD with 600x800 (SVGA) resolution, equipped with a 1024x1024 resolution touchscreen. The standard customer display, which can either be pole-mounted or attached to the back of the terminal, is a 4.7-inch monochrone LCD with 320x240 (QVGA) resolution. Optional customer displays include 5-inch color QVGA and 12-inch color SVGA LCDs.

A full-page contact image sensor (CIS) scanner is used for inputting play slips, game tickets, and coupons. Other available input devices include Smart Card and magnetic stripe readers for security control and a barcode scanner.

The terminal's 5.9 inch/sec. thermal printer is said to produce higher quality tickets than traditional impact printers. No ribbons to change and fewer moving parts results in higher reliability and less maintenance, the company says.
