A new thin client device from Devon IT runs Windows XP Embedded on a Via C3 processor equipped with 512MB each of RAM and flash memory. The NTA 8020C has no moving parts and is intended to serve as a cost-effective, reliable alternative to standard PCs, according to the company.

The 8020C, the latest entry in Devon's NTA Virtual Office thin client series terminals, ups the processor speed and doubles the memory of last year's Windows XP Embedded-based model, the 8010C.

Key hardware features of the NTA 8020C thin client terminal, according to Devon IT, include:
        • VIA C3 800 MHz processor
        • 512 MB RAM memory
        • 512 MB Flash Memory
        • Video support up to 1280 x 1024 in 24-bit color
        • I/O ports -- 4 USB, 2 serial, 2 PS/2, 1 VGA, and 1 parallel

        The 8020C's rear panel connectors

        Bundled software includes:
        • Windows XP Embedded OS
        • Internet Explorer web browser
        • RDP and ICA protocol support
        • Java virtual machine
The company suggests that a "server centric computing" approach to enterprise information access, based on thin client terminals such as the NTA series, minimizes support costs and centralizes desktop system management.

        Availability

The Windows XP Embedded-based NTA 8020C thin client terminal is shipping now, priced at $399, according to the company.
