MIPS Technologies announced that its new MIPS32 24K family of processor cores has passed Microsoft's Windows CE certification testing. The 24K core family offers performance from 400 to 550 MHz (worst case) in a 0.13 micron process, and is targeted at applications such as multimedia consumer electronics, set-top boxes, gateways, and VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) phones.

According to MIPS, the 24K core family achieves 1.44 Dhrystone MIPS/MHz performance in a core area of less than 3.0 x 3.0 mm. That, along with a wide range of configurable features, enables engineers to keep costs down while adding more features and functionality to next-generation system-on-chip designs, MIPS says.
