Maxatec's HH8010, available in yellow (right) or black, is IP65-rated for resistance to liquids or dust and withstands drops of approximately 4.9 feet (1.5 meters), according to the company. While many devices of its type run Windows CE, this handheld uses Windows Mobile 6.1; integrated, quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GRPS/EDGE cellular capabilities may apparently be used for both voice and data calls.Telephony apart, the HH8010's range of wireless abilities includes 802.11b/g local area networking, Bluetooth, a Smart Card reader, a 2D barcode scanner, an optional RFID reader, and even an IrDA infrared port, according to Maxatec. All that appears to be missing, at least at this stage in the device's evolution, is a GPS receiver.
Maxatec says the HH8010 has a 2.8-inch touchscreen display with 320 x 240 resolution, a numeric keypad with 12 keys, two programmable function keys, and a five-way controller for navigation. The device uses Samsung's S3C2442B (similar to the S3C2440) clocked at 400MHz, and equipped with 64MB of RAM and 128MB of flash storage. A microSD slot is provided for memory expansion, and the HH8010 packs a 2000mAh battery, according to its manufacturer.

Andrea Percival, managing director of Maxatec, stated, "As the mobile solutions market continues to grow, the demand is increasing for Windows Mobile. We already provide products for a number of mobile computing applications in a variety of business areas, but to date we have been limited, as our offering has been based on Windows CE 5.0. The addition of the Maxatec HH 8010 opens up a number of new areas to us."
