McAfee ships Windows Mobile 5.0 anti-malware

McAfee has announced that its mobile virus scanning software now supports Windows Mobile 5.0. VirusScan Mobile and VirusScan Mobile Enterprise Edition help protect users of Windows Mobile 5.0 devices against the latest malware and attacks, including recent "SMiShing" attacks (phishing scams via SMS), the company says.

According to McAfee, VirusScan Mobile protects Windows Mobile 5.0 devices from attacks via SMS, MMS, Bluetooth, WiFi, and other entry points. It identifies threats that originate from e-mail, instant messaging, internet downloads and Web surfing, automatically detecting and cleaning infected files before they can attack the device. All attachments are scanned as they are received or sent.

McAfee says its subscription model ensures that devices can be protected "as long as users own their phones." Updates are delivered as soon as threats are identified and run silently in the background without interrupting connections.

Victor Kouznetsov, McAfee's senior VP of mobile technology, stated, "The need for mobile virus protection has never been greater. As organizations extend their mobile workforces, the need to protect a broader range of platforms becomes more critical. Now, users of Windows Mobile 5.0 can have the same worry-free experience as other mobile device users."

A one-year subscription to VirusScan Mobile is priced at $30. A 30-day free trial download is available here.
