Microsoft has updated a previously published Windows Mobile platform migration FAQ to reflect the behavior of Windows Mobile 5.0. Also newly published, is a whitepaper that discusses application security policies built into Windows Mobile 5.0. The two articles appear on the company's MSDN developer website.
Windows Mobile Platform Migration FAQ for Developers -- This article, originally published in September of last year, addresses the most common issues and frequently asked questions from developers related to migrating from one version of Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform to another. Many of the questions in the new version reflect behavior that has changed as a result of the latest release, Windows Mobile 5.0. For example, applications that appeared to run without error on previous versions may display an error dialog under Windows Mobile 5.0, according to Microsoft. This is because the new release detects and reports unhandled exceptions that previous versions didn't, Microsoft says. Read the migration FAQ here.
Windows Mobile 5.0 Application Security -- Devices running Windows Mobile 5.0 implement a set of security policies that determine whether an application is allowed to run and, if allowed, with what level of trust, according to this whitepaper. When testing a new application on a Windows Mobile device, the developer needs to know what the security configuration of the device is, and must sign the application with the appropriate certificate in order to allow it to run with the needed level of trust. In some cases this may require assistance from the OEM or a mobile operator, Microsoft notes. Read the application security article here.
