For the six months ending December 31st, Embedded revenue was $154 million, a 41 percent increase over the prior year's first half revenue of $109 million. Meanwhile, operating loss for the most recent quarter in the segment decreased from $33 million in the corresponding quarter a year ago, to just $4 million, and amounted to just 20 percent of the prior quarter's loss.

For the company as a whole, second quarter revenue was $10.82 billion, a 7 percent increase over the results in the same period of the company's previous fiscal year. Net income for quarter was $3.46 billion. Diluted earnings per share exceeded the company's guidance by $0.04, and were $0.32, including stock-based compensation expense.
Of note, Microsoft's Mobile and Embedded Devices revenue represents just 0.8 percent of the company's total revenue.
"Our record revenue came from across-the-board strength in both our business and consumer segments" said John Connors, chief financial officer at Microsoft. "And our long-term approach to growing new businesses is paying off. Home and Entertainment delivered its first profitable quarter and all three of the companys emerging businesses combined generated a nearly $700 million improvement in operating results compared to the second quarter of last fiscal year."
