Dallas' address, entitled "Delivering the future, faster," will be delivered on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 9 AM EDT. According to the company's summary, the keynote will "detail Microsoft's vision for thriving in a connected, service-oriented market." Dallas will place particular emphasis on optimizing each stage of a device's development for ROI (return on investment), adds Microsoft.
At least year's ESC Boston, Dallas used the soapbox to tip some of his group's future product plans, including
Windows CE Release 2 and
Windows Embedded Standard 2009. And, though the presence of Windows Embedded software architect Mike Hall during the keynote wasn't officially announced, the self-described "demo monkey" often acts as Dallas' sidekick, ensuring product-rich discussions. Hall is known for his rapid-fire
product demonstrations and
coding skills, so a pre-demo cup of coffee might be in order.

As mentioned, 300 attendees will receive an added wakeup call in the form of a free Via
Artigo, a 5.9 x 4.3 x 1.8-inch mini PC that uses a pico-ITX motherboard and a 1GHz Via C7 processor. The little Artigo (right) will be equipped with 1GB of RAM, Visual Studio Pro 2005, and a 120GB hard drive configured to boot into either Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 or Windows Embedded Standard 2009, according to Microsoft.
The Artigo may already be familiar to regular ESC attendees, since the 1.14-pound systems were
given away in April to those who purchased an "all access" pass to ESC Silicon Valley by show organizers Techsights. The Artigo is also one of the devices offered in Microsoft's
Spark Your Imagination program, via which selected computers are bundled with Windows CE 6.0 and Visual Studio Pro 2005, then sold to hobbyists and academics at reduced cost.
Other eventsMicrosoft also announced additional events for ESC Boston attendees. For example, a session scheduled for 12:45 PM EDT on Tuesday will provide an introduction to
.NET Micro Framework 3.0, according to the company. On Wednesday at 2:00 PM EDT, the company adds, another session will cover
WEPOS (Windows Embedded for Point of Service).
Also, a party called "Beer, Brats, and Boards" will be held at 6:45 PM EDT on Tuesday, the company adds. This "informal, hands-on" event will provide attendees the chance to "spend time eating, drinking, talking, and brainstorming," says Microsoft. Since being able to "spend some time in the labs" is also promised, product demos by Mike Hall are a sure thing.
Previously, Microsoft announced 12 different ESC Boston sessions devoted to Windows Embedded Standard 2009 and Windows CE 6.0. For more details of the sessions, plus other show events, see our earlier coverage,
