Microsoft has launched an area of its MSDN website devoted to supporting developers who want to begin designing application software for the recently unveiled Ultra Mobile PC (formerly codenamed "Origami") category of...

        devices.

Because UMPCs run Windows XP Tablet PC edition, all the familiar Windows APIs are available to developers writing applications for the devices, the MSDN UMPC webpage points out.

The new UMPC webpage offers a helpful list of "Things to Note" about developing and testing UMPC applications, along with links to a number of useful APIs and tools. Topics currently covered include:
        • Quick Start Guide
        • Developer Information
        • Specifications
        • Microsoft Touch Pack for UMPC
        • Developing Applications
The webpage says that additional samples, whitepapers, and code snippets will be added over the next few weeks and months.

"The opportunities for the UMPC in the consumer space are exciting and endless," the MSDN UMPC webpage states.
