        Microsoft launches Wi-Fi "hot spot" collaboration, 30-day free service

        Wayport. The arrangement is intended to make it easier for its US customers to locate, access, and use Wi-Fi wireless services with their mobile devices, Microsoft said.

        Additionally, to promote the expanded Wi-Fi service, purchasers of new Pocket PC with Windows Mobile between June 23 and Aug. 23 will be offered 30 days of free Wi-Fi access from any of the participating providers.

        Combined, T-Mobile, Boingo, and Wayport coverage provides more than 3,500 Wi-Fi "hot spot" locations in the US, Microsoft said. T-Mobile has 2,500, including Starbucks coffeehouses and Borders Books & Music stores; Boingo has 1,300 in 300 cities within 43 states; and Wayport offers Wi-Fi service at more than 525 hotels including Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, Loews Hotels, and Embassy Suites, as well as at seven airports.
